Wanna get unstuck? According to Lisa T. Schlesinger, there are two ways that your life can derail. The first is due to a change in your master plan, such as a divorce or experiencing the loss of a loved one. The second occurs when we feel stuck.
Although the first challenge can be heartbreaking, nothing compares to the overwhelming feeling of being stuck.
Important life experiences have a way of bringing out the best in us. We can identify the problem, and even if we’re not ready, we generally know what steps to take next. But what the heck do you do if you feel stuck? Most the time we can’t even identify exactly why we feel that way!
Feeling stuck can occur in spite of enjoying a happy family life, a successful career, and a beautiful home. If you want to get unstuck, it all starts with figuring out exactly why you’re stuck in the first place. These seven tips will help you do just that.
Listen to some great music
Music has a way of affecting our mood. What kind of music do you like? When was the last time you listened to your favorite song? When was the last time you discovered a new band you liked?
Take some time to listen to some great music and things may become a bit clearer. This is especially true if you can set aside some time to put on headphones and do nothing but listen to the music. You never know what a great song can awaken in you and your dancing shoes!
If you could do anything you want right now, it would be…
Many of us feel stuck because we spend all day doing things we don’t want to do. We have to take the kids to school, spend eight hours at work, cook dinner, pack lunches for the next day, all before it’s time to go to bed. But, what if you could do anything you wanted today? What would you choose to do?
Now, consider how you can integrate that into your life. If you would travel, is there a town a few hours away that you and your family could explore? If you would read a good book, is there any way that you could get a neighbor to watch the kids for an hour every week?
Analyze your dreams
Dreams can be a jumbled up mess of images and events, but the more you pay attention to your dreams, the clearer they will become. The clearer they become, the more they can reveal things about your life you never considered.
Keep a dream journal by your bed and write down at least one dream each night. Even if it’s a few short sentences write it down. Then, look for patterns in the types of people and events that show up again and again.
Look for a pattern
Looking for patterns isn’t just confined to your dreams! Patterns in your life can reveal a lot about why you feel stuck. Do you feel like you deal with authoritative jerks at every turn? Are there patterns of behavior you can observe about your family members? Are there a few habits you could easily replace to add new, healthier patterns? Discovering and analyzing these patterns can reveal a lot about the way you’re living your life, and in turn, they can help you define what it is you need to change so that you can live better.
Get in touch with your inner child
There are tons of ways you can get in touch with your inner child!
Have a little fun! Even if it means embarrassing yourself in front of other people! Who knows, you may just inspire them to get in touch with their inner child too!
Honor your feelings
When someone asks how you’re doing, what do you say? Do you say the same thing, no matter how you feel? Getting unstuck means honoring your feelings and being honest.
Living in denial will only make things worse. By taking a moment to understand how you’re feeling and honoring those feelings, you can live more authentically.
Exercise and Movement
Most of us can’t wait to get home at the end of the day so we can sit in front of the TV. However, staying sedentary is putting you on the fast track to feeling stuck.
Get up and move around. Even a short walk or dancing with your daughter in the living room can all have a profound effect on your feelings of being stuck.
Unfortunately, figuring out why you feel stuck can take some time, but by following these tips, you’ll get back on the right track in no time.
