Can you hold sand in your hand? Of course you can! But it’s all in the way you hold it.
If you squeeze tightly, all of the sand will ooze out of your fingers. In order to hold sand in your hand, you have to take a different approach. Only by cupping your hand gently can you hold the sand in place.
When it comes to everyday living, most of us try and hold the sand in our lives tightly because holding on is the only way to get what we want. I’m here to tell you that isn’t the case. Instead of holding onto everything in your life so tightly, you need to learn to let go.
Learning to let go opens the door to new possibilities
We all have a picture of what our lives are supposed to look like: the perfectly manicured lawn, the big house, the happy family, the corporate job. It’s funny because we hold on so tightly to this image, even though life has taught us that it just doesn’t work that way. Sure, if you let go, you may not end up with the high-paying corporate job or the big house you thought you wanted, but I’m willing to bet that you’ll discover something much more amazing than you never could have imagined.
Learning to let go opens doors to new possibilities that you never even knew existed. By letting go just a little bit, you’ll discover new opportunities to follow your passion and live a more fulfilled life, even though it might not be exactly what you thought you wanted.
Learning to let go brings peace
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you don’t get the dishes done, the lawn mowed, or that last email sent. There are so many things we expect ourselves to do each day that we feel like a failure if we don’t get them all done. However, the cleanliness of your closet and the appearance of your yard aren’t what define you. When you let go, you’ll learn to be easier on yourself when you don’t get those things done.
If you’re able to let go of perfection and what you THINK life should be like, you carve out more time to enjoy life. Letting go of unimportant things and things you can’t control will bring you peace. It usually means you’ll have a lot more fun too!
Giving up control can help you gain it
Imagine swimming upstream. You may end up where the river begins eventually, but you’ll be old and tired by the time you get there. Whether you swim against the current or go with the flow, you’re in the same river, so why not try riding the waves? Not only will you learn that you’re pretty good at it, but you’ll end up with an ocean full of opportunities when you reach the mouth of the river.
Even though it seems counter-intuitive, giving up control can actually help you gain it. If you really want to hold onto the sand, you have to let go a little bit. If you want to feel like you have control over your life, you have to let life happen.
Although things may not look the way you thought they would, you’ll find that you ultimately have more control over the things that really matter when you let go.
Letting go is the gateway to your intuition
When you learn to let go, you can actually open the door to honoring your intuition . When you let go of all the things in your life that don’t really matter, you create a space where you can listen to your heart.
If the idea of letting go seems a bit scary, try letting go of small things first. As you gain confidence, you can try letting go of more difficult things. If you would like support on letting go of more in your life let’s chat.
By letting go you can learn to hold onto sand, ride the waves, and live a better life.
